Introduction

The Nordic Council of Ministers plays its part in building resilient Arctic communities.

The Arctic is an important part of the Nordic Region. Since 1996, the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Arctic Co-operation Programme has delivered positive results by focusing on sustainability across work on the environment and climate, social conditions and economic development.

Resilience is crucial in an age of geopolitical tensions and growing environmental and climate challenges. The programme for 2025–2027 prioritises resilience and the strength of civil society.

“The Arctic can feel the effects of geopolitical unrest and climate change, which makes Nordic co-operation more important than ever. When we work together and learn from each other, the Nordic countries are stronger than when we stand alone."

Karen Ellemann, Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers, on the Arctic Programme.

Funding opportunities

The Nordic Arctic Programme 2025–2027 is divided into two tracks that aim both to promote external Arctic initiatives and to support strategic efforts:

Open call: Relevant actors can apply for funding for projects that contribute to the programme’s objectives.

Strategic priorities: Initiatives launched at the initiative of the Nordic governments or the Nordic Council of Ministers.

This division ensures both broad participation from relevant stakeholders and targeted actions in strategically prioritised areas.
