The role of the Nordic Region in the fight for equality

This year, the Women’s Summit is being held against a backdrop of war, heightened geopolitical unrest, and a changing world order. In such circumstances, there is a risk of equality and women’s rights slipping down the list of priorities at precisely the time when these issues are vital for stable and democratic societies.

The delegation from the Nordic Council's Committee for Welfare in the Nordic Region will attend meetings and fringe events, and engage in dialogue with other parliamentarians, decision-makers, international organisations, and civil society actors. Themes discussed will include women in war and conflict, equality and climate policy, violence against women, intimate partner murder, and abortion rights.

The Nordic Region has long been one of the parts of the world with the highest levels of gender equality. As such, the Committee for Welfare in the Nordic Region seeks to ensure that lessons learned in the Nordic countries help enhance international work on gender equality, and that the Nordic countries act as a clear voice for gender equality at global level.
