High-level event in Stockholm: Four Nordic climate ministers will meet in Stockholm for a kick-off event ahead of COP30 – and you can join them!

Under the heading Ambitions, Alliances and Action, the Nordic Council of Ministers will bring together climate ministers, civil society, scientists and the business community for a joint Nordic kick-off event ahead of the climate negotiations. The big question is: What can the Nordic Region do to help reach a positive outcome in Belém?

The world prepares for COP30

So does the Nordic Region. On Wednesday 29 October, nine days before the world’s nations gather for the COP30 climate summit in Belém, Brazil, the Nordic Council of Ministers will host a Nordic kick-off event in Stockholm.

The environment ministers Romina Pourmokhtari (Sweden), Sari Multala (Finland), Andreas Bjelland Eriksen (Norway) and Margit Stórá (Faroe Islands), will share their perspectives on the upcoming negotiations and discuss the role of the Nordic Region with stakeholders from research, civil society and business.

Suzanne Dael of the European Environment Agency will also present the main findings of the agency’s flagship report “Europe's Environment 2025”, and Ghita Borring from the think-tank Concito will advocate the importance of positive visions and the role of hope in driving the green transition.

Our Nordic kick-off event provides an opportunity to reflect on where we stand and discuss how we can work together to bring about a positive outcome at COP30 in Belém. With multilateralism under pressure and global challenges affecting us all, co-operation is more important than ever.

Secretary General, Karen Ellemann

About COP

Almost every country in the world attends the COP negotiations under the auspices of UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

COP stands for Conference of the Parties, and this year marks the thirtieth time nations have gathered to promote action on climate change.

COP30 will take place in Belém, Brazil, 10–21 November 2025.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement being adopted at COP21 in Paris.

As the countries laid the final foundations for the frameworks for the Paris Agreement last year in Baku, COP30 is also being referred to as an implementation COP, with a shift in focus from negotiation to action.
