Nordic culture dazzles at Sweden’s Riksdag at awarding of Nordic Council prizes for 2025

Tonight, politicians and cultural figures from across the Nordic Region gathered in Sweden’s Riksdag to pay tribute to the winners of the Nordic Council prizes. It was a dazzling evening filled with music, cultural performances, and tributes to the contributions made to Nordic culture and the environment.
It was an unforgettable evening for the winners. The first prize to be awarded was the children and young people’s Literature Prize, which went to Sara Lundberg from Sweden for the picture book Ingen utom jag. The music prize went to the Icelandic pianist Víkingur Ólafsson, and the environment prize was awarded to Grønne Nabofællesskaber from Denmark.
But this was above all the Faroe Islands’ night. For the very first time, a Faroese film won the film prize – Seinasta paradís á jørð by director and screenwriter Sakaris Stórá, screenwriters Mads Stegger and Tommy Oksen, and producer Jón Hammer.
“Simply being nominated is an honour – winning is absolutely incredible,” said screenwriter and director Sakaris Stórá.
Vónbjørt Vang received the prestigious literature prize for her poetry collection Svørt orkidé. It’s the first time since 1986 that the literature prize has gone to a Faroese author. “Winning the Nordic Council Literature Prize means not only a great deal to me, but also to Faroese literature. I’ve been surprised by how much my book has meant to others,” said Vónbjørt Vang.
