About EXPO 2025 Osaka and the Nordic Presence

What is EXPO?

World EXPOs are major international exhibitions where countries, businesses, and organizations come together to explore global challenges, present innovations, and foster collaboration. For over 170 years, they have been platforms for cultural exchange, diplomacy, and sustainable development.

EXPO 2025 Osaka takes place from April 13th to October 13th 2025 under the overarching theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”. It will bring together over 150 countries and organizations in Japan’s Kansai region to share visions and solutions for shaping a better world.

The Nordic Pavilion

At EXPO 2025, the Nordic countries will unite under one shared pavilion. The Nordic Pavilion is designed as a space to highlight Nordic values and competencies through interactive exhibitions, cultural experiences, and knowledge-sharing events.

Throughout the six-month EXPO, the Nordic Pavilion will feature a rich and diverse daily program led by the Nordic countries, showcasing everything from policy dialogues to cultural events. In addition, several Joint Nordic Days will take place during the EXPO period—each dedicated to a key theme such as clean energy, health tech, gender equality, food innovation, culture, and more—highlighting the Nordics’ shared contributions to global sustainability, innovation, and well-being.

Why the Nordic Council of Ministers is Present at EXPO 2025

The Nordic Council of Ministers is the official body for intergovernmental cooperation in the Nordic Region. It facilitates dialogue, policy development, and joint action across borders to solve challenges more effectively together than individually.

The Nordic Council of Ministers is present at EXPO 2025 because the Nordic Prime Ministers have committed to Vision 2030, which aims to make the Nordic region the most sustainable, integrated, and competitive in the world by the year 2030. Joint participation at EXPO Osaka is a strategic milestone toward realizing that vision.

Through its Department of Growth and Climate, institutions, and cooperation bodies, including Nordic Energy Research, Nordic Innovation, Nordic Innovation House Tokyo, NordForsk, and NORA, the Nordic Council of Ministers contributes insights, networks, and project outcomes across nearly all EXPO-relevant themes.

The Nordic Council of Ministers supports and co-creates events in the Nordic Pavilion by:

  • Co-hosting events and contributing to their planning.

  • Participating in panels and providing keynote speakers, policymakers, and experts.

  • Sharing Nordic project results, reports, and policy insights on green transition, digital innovation, circular economy, culture, and more.

The Nordic Council of Ministers also brings a rich portfolio of flagship programs to the table—from green solutions, to life science, sustainable construction, digitalization, and startup scale-up support.

EXPO 2025 Osaka is a unique opportunity to present the Nordics as a region of innovation, sustainability, and cooperation—and to invite the world to join the conversation.
