In 2019, the Nordic prime ministers adopted the vision for the Nordic Region to become the most sustainable and integrated region in the world by 2030. Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland, and the autonomous territories of Greenland, Åland and the Faroe Islands all agreed on this vision.

Then came 2020, and the countries went into lockdown. Capital after capital and country after country was hit by a pandemic that seized every opportunity it could, regardless of national borders.

How do we get back from this? Should the Nordic countries continue to form a co-operative region as they do today? Is the coronavirus pandemic a bump in the road for co-operation, or has the disease thrown a spanner in the works of the world’s most integrated region?

We ask those who spend their lives working across borders about the type of Nordic co-operation they envisage going forwards.
