Disability pension in Åland
The Finnish pension system is applied in Åland, consisting of an earnings-related pension and a national pension. Earnings-related pension and national pension are paid out in the form of, among others, disability pension. Disability pension may be granted if a person’s ability to work is reduced due to illness or injury for at least one year. The primary aim is to restore the person’s ability to work through rehabilitation. An application for disability pension usually requires medical certificates and other examinations demonstrating reduced working capacity. If the period of incapacity for work is less than one year, sickness allowance may be paid by Kela.
