The Nordic Committee for Children and Young People (NORDBUK) is the Nordic Council of Ministers’ advisory and co-ordinating body for issues relating to children and young people.

The Nordic Committee for Children and Young People shall:

  • gather and disseminate knowledge about children and young people’s living conditions in the Nordics;
  • promote the integration of a children’s rights and youth perspective within the Nordic Council of Ministers; and
  • support children and young people’s own organisation and participation in democratic processes.

The Ministers for Nordic Co-operation are responsible for the overall political governance of the committee, while most of the concrete work on children’s and youth issues in the Nordic Council of Ministers takes place in the various policy “sectors” such as culture, social affairs and health, the labour market, gender equality, education, and regional policy. The work is guided by the Nordic Council of Ministers’ cross-sectoral strategy for children and young people, and the committee’s task is then to monitor its implementation.

The Nordic Committee for Children and Young People consists of government representatives and youth organisation representatives from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, and Åland.
