The Nordic Council will soon gather for its annual Session, this year at the Swedish parliament, the Riksdag, from 28 to 31 October. The Session, which is the Nordic Region’s largest political forum of the year, brings together the Nordic Council’s 87 parliamentarians along with prime ministers, foreign ministers, and a number of other ministers from across the region, as well as invited international guests.

“On behalf of the Swedish delegation, I very much look forward to welcoming our Nordic colleagues to Sweden’s Riksdag in Stockholm. At a time when Nordic co-operation is more important than ever, this year’s Session is especially significant,” says Heléne Björklund, President of the Nordic Council.

Over four intense days, delegates discuss the most pressing political issues in the region. The plenary sessions are open to the public and can also be followed via livestream at norden.org.

Session week begins on Monday 27 October with meetings of the Nordic Council’s five party groups. In the days before, the Nordic Youth Council will gather for its own Session.

The official opening will take place in Sweden’s Riksdag at 14:00 on Tuesday 28 October. On the same day, a plenary summit of the members of the Nordic Council and the Nordic prime ministers will take place.

The week traditionally ends with the election of a new President and Vice-President for 2026, when it will be Finland’s and Åland’s turn to lead the work of the Nordic Council.

Nordic Council prizes

In conjunction with the Session, the Nordic Council prizes will also be awarded, with five prizes in literature, children and young people’s literature, film, music, and the environment. The awards ceremony will take place on the evening of 28 October and can also be followed via livestream.
