Donald Trump and developments in the US will be debated when the Nordic Council convenes for meetings and a theme session in the Swedish parliament building in Stockholm on 3 and 4 April. “Events in the US have an impact on the Nordic Region so it’s important that we discuss how we should respond to what’s happening at the moment,” says President of the Nordic Council Britt Lundberg.

The Nordic Region and the US – new conditions is the title of the theme debate taking place on the second day of meetings, Tuesday 4 April. By then Donald Trump will have been President of the United State for nearly three months and the world will have a clearer picture of how his time in office is likely to pan out.

Nordic Council members will have the opportunity to debate developments in the US for the first time since Trump took office. President of the Nordic Council Britt Lundberg is looking forward to an exciting debate about a topic that concerns the whole world.

International co-operation is under pressure and this means that we too in the Nordic Council have to look at how we work. We have the chance to play a more active role and demonstrate how important co-operation in the Nordic Region is.

“Trump’s first weeks as US President have been marked by uncertainty regarding what he wants to achieve with his policies and there have been some mixed messages. What is clear is that we face a challenging time with greater uncertainty than before. International co-operation is under pressure and this means that we too in the Nordic Council have to look at how we work. We have the chance to play a more active role and demonstrate how important co-operation in the Nordic Region is,” Lundberg says.
