On 7 September, the Prime Minister of Iceland, Katrín Jakobsdóttir, will present the nominations for the Nordic Council Environment Prize 2018 at the LÝSA festival of democracy in Akureyri.

The presentation will take place in Kulturhuset Hof, 7 September 11:15–12:00 (13:15–14:00 CET). Information about all of the nominations will also be published on www.norden.org at the same time.

Life in the sea

The theme for the Nordic Council Environment Prize 2018 is protecting marine life, and the prize will go to an initiative that supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals for 2030, in particular number 14 “Life below water”.

Representatives of the Icelandic nominees will be on hand in Akureyri to present their projects and explain their priorities.

The Environment Prize 2018 will be awarded on 30 October during the Session of the Nordic Council in Oslo. It will be the 24th time that the DKK 350,000 prize has been awarded.

Last year, the prize went to Repack (FIN) for its recyclable packaging and return system for e-commerce.

Democracy festivals

LÝSA (7-8 September) is part of the Nordic tradition of holding festivals of democracy every summer. Last year, the nominations for Environment Prize were presented at People’s Festival on Bornholm in Denmark.
