With ten events, Nordic young people are setting their agenda in the Nordic Pavilion at COP29, the UN’s climate negotiations, which this year take place in Azerbaijan.

A youth climate council, expectations for the negotiations, round table discussions, political exchanges of experience, and young people’s demands for the negotiations are among the agenda items when Nordic young people take the floor at the UN climate negotiations in Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku.

Nordic Pavilion gives young people a platform

“On a purely practical level, it’s difficult for young people to gain access to the climate negotiations. And when we do get in, the platforms for exchanging experiences, side events, and policy development across the countries are the alpha and omega,” says Lise Coermann Nygaard, Denmark’s youth delegate to the UN on climate and the environment.

The Nordic Pavilion gives young people from the Nordics and the rest of the world a platform for setting their own agenda and discussing regional and global climate challenges. With ten events organised by Nordic young people, they are well-represented in the Nordic Pavilion’s programme, which also includes events by universities, research institutions, NGOs, and the Nordic governments.

Three highlights

On Wednesday 13 November, European youth delegates will present their demands and expectations for the negotiations. This will take place between 13:15 and 14:00 UTC+4. At 16:00 UTC+4 on the same day, youth representatives from Finland, Planetary Health Alliance Western Africa, and YOUNGO will share their hopes and wishes for the negotiations.

On Thursday 21 November from 9:30 to 10:15 UTC+4, Norwegian and Danish youth delegates will debate how to address both the climate and nature crisis. At 14:30 UTC+4, they will go on to take a closer look at the conditions of climate activists on a global scale.

On the last day of the negotiations, Friday 22 November, at 13:15 UTC+4, a youth panel will meet to discuss the outcome of the negotiations and the road leading up to COP30 in 2025.

Don’t miss the youth-led events at the Nordic Pavilion in Baku. All events will be streamed at norden.org.
