Three ministers for Nordic co-operation will attend the Nordic Council Theme Session debate on the USA and the Nordic Region in Stockholm on 4 April – Margot Wallström (SWE), Frank Bakke-Jensen (NO) and Nina Fellman (Åland).

The heading for the theme debate is the Nordic Region and the USA – the new situation. It will be the first time that the members of the Nordic Council have had the opportunity to meet with the ministers for Nordic co-operation and discuss foreign affairs since the US presidential election.

“We need to work closely with our neighbours and together identify where the Nordic Region and the USA have common interests in trade and defence policy,” says Margot Wallström, who doubles as Minister for Foreign Affairs and for Nordic Co-operation.

The debate starts in the Chamber of the Swedish parliament at 10:00 with short speeches by the three ministers before the members of the Council join in.

The debate will be broadcast live on Swedish TV (on SVT Forum) and streamed live online. After the debate, the Session will continue in the Chamber until 15:00.

The debate and Theme Session are open to the media. The ministers will not be holding a formal press conference but at the end of the debate – at approx. 11:30 – they will be available for brief comments outside the Chamber.
