Picture books, young adult novels, and cartoon series open up a world of possibilities to children and young people, and this is certainly the case for this year’s nominees for the Nordic Council Children and Young People’s Literature Prize. Picture books about war and loss, playful rhymes and ditties, humorous and serious cartoon series, a book about uncontrollable ADHD, a house full of secrets, and a trip in a dinghy to a completely different world are some of the many stories we come across among this year’s nominations.

Winner to be announced on 21 October

The winner of the 2025 Nordic Council Children and Young People’s Literature Prize will be announced on 21 October. In connection with the Session of the Nordic Council in Stockholm, the winner will receive the “Nordlys” prize statuette at a special award ceremony on 28 October. The prize is worth DKK 300,000.

About the Nordic Council Children and Young People’s Literature Prize

The Nordic Council Children and Young People’s Literature Prize was first awarded in 2013. The prize was born out of the long-standing desire of the Nordic ministers for culture to strengthen and highlight literature for children and young people in the Nordic Region.

The prize goes to a literary work for children and young people written in one of the Nordic languages. The work can combine text and images, and must meet high literary and artistic standards.
