Meet the winners of the 2022 Nordic Council prizes

Nora Dåsnes, Solvej Balle, Karin Rehnqvist, Valdimar Jóhannsson, Sjón, Hrönn Kristinsdóttir, Sara Nassim, and the City of Mariehamn are the winners of the 2022 Nordic Council prizes, announced during an awards ceremony broadcast live from Helsinki’s Musikhuset on the evening of Tuesday 1 November.

The Icelandic film “Lamm” won the film prize, while the environment prize went to the City of Mariehamn from Åland for the Nabben wetland. The literature prize went to Denmark’s Solvej Balle for her novel “Om udregning af rumfang I, II, III”, while the music prize went to the Swedish composer Karin Rehnqvist for the work Silent Earth. Norwegian author Nora Dåsnes won the children and young people’s literature prize for the graphic novel “Ubesvart anrop”.

2022 Nordic Council Film Prize

The 2022 Nordic Council Film Prize goes to the Icelandic film “Lamb” by director and screenwriter Valdimar Jóhannsson, screenwriter Sjón and producers Hrönn Kristinsdóttir and Sara Nassim. The work is described by the jury as a unique story of loss, grief and fear. 

2022 Nordic Council Music Prize

The 2022 Nordic Council Music Prize goes to Swedish composer Karin Rehnqvist for her work Silent Earth. Silent Earth is a bewildering and powerfully encouraging work which greatly impressed the adjudication committee. With a masterful touch, Karin Rehnqvist expresses the unique capacity of music.

2022 Nordic Council Environment Prize

The 2022 Nordic Council Environment Prize goes to the City of Mariehamn from Åland for Nabben wetland for its versatile solution, which cleans the water environment and has positive impact on plant and animal life. In addition, the initiative aims to ensure climate adaptation in the urban environment.

2022 Nordic Council Children and Young People’s Literature Prize

The 2022 Nordic Council Children and Young People’s Literature Prize goes to the graphic novel “Ubesvart anrop” by Nora Dåsnes from Norway. Nora Dåsnes has won the prize for her strong, credible and nuanced work about how the terrorist attack on 22 July 2011 affected the entire Norwegian nation.

2022 Nordic Council Literature Prize

The 2022 Nordic Council Literature Prize goes to the novel “Om udregning af rumfang I, II och III” by author Solvej Balle from Denmark. Solvej Balle receives the prize for her work that the jury described as a masterpiece of its time.

About the Nordic Council prizes

The Nordic Council awards five prizes each year – for literature, film, music, the environment, and children’s and young people’s literature. The winners each receive DKK 300,000 along with the Nordlys statuette, which is presented at an awards ceremony in connection with the annual Session of the Nordic Council.
