Susanna Mälkki won the 2017 Nordic Council Music Prize

The nominees of the 2019 Nordic Council Music Prize will be announced on 10 May at 18:00 (Finnish time) in conjunction with a concert at the Helsinki Music Centre featuring the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Susanna Mälkki, and Christian Tetzlaff.

The nominees for this year’s music prize will be presented at a special launch event at the Helsinki Music Centre by the world-famous Finnish conductor Susanna Mälkki, who also won the 2017 Nordic Council Music Prize, and Kim Kuusi, chair of Teosto and member of the Finnish adjudication committee for the prize.

The Nordic Council Music Prize was first awarded in 1965 to recognise the creation and performance of music of a high artistic standard. The prize is awarded on alternate years to a work by a living composer in one year, and to a small or large ensemble the next.
