The Nordic Council has now announced the winners of its five prestigious prizes in literature, children and young people’s literature, film, music, and the environment. Each prize is worth DKK 300,000 and will be awarded in conjunction with the Session of the Nordic Council in Stockholm on 28 October.

Two Faroese winners

Both the Nordic Council Literature Prize and the Nordic Council Film Prize go to the Faroe Islands this year. This is the first time that a Faroese film has been put up for nomination, with the film Seinasta paradís á jørð taking home the win. The literature prize goes to Vónbjørt Vang for the poetry collection Svørt orkidé, marking the first time since 1986 that the literature prize has gone to a Faroese writer.

The children and young people’s literature prize goes to Sara Lundberg from Sweden for her picture book “Ingen utom jag”, while the music prize goes to the Icelandic pianist Víkingur Ólafsson, who has also been nominated twice before. The theme for this year’s environment prize is “Civil Society’s Green Contributions”, and goes to Green Neighbourhood Communities from Denmark.

The winners will be awarded their Nordlys statuettes at an awards ceremony in Sweden’s Riksdag at 18:00 on 28 October in conjunction with the Session of the Nordic Council. The winners will also be interviewed live on stage during an event at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern in Stockholm on 27 October at 7 PM, where it will also be possible to see the winning film.
