Three years on from the invasion – the Nordic Council reiterates its strong support for Ukraine

“Since Russia launched its brutal full-scale attack on Ukraine in contravention of international law on 24 February 2022, the Nordic Council has consistently condemned Russian warmongering in the strongest possible terms and expressed its support for Ukraine. We reiterate that support again today with renewed vigour.
Peace must be secured on Ukraine’s terms, and Ukraine must sit at the negotiating table. The Nordic countries, the Baltic States, the EU, NATO and other like-minded partners must do what they can to help Ukraine. The security of the whole of Europe is at stake.
Trust is the “Nordic gold”. Our trust in democracy, each other and our institutions makes us better equipped to withstand Russian propaganda. But we cannot afford to be naïve. Russian disinformation and hybrid attacks must be taken as seriously as possible. We must upgrade our armed forces, civil defence and our co-operation in the Nordic Region and with other like-minded partners. Together we are stronger.
The Nordic Council expresses its strongest support and sympathy for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people and will continue to stand up for Ukraine for as long as necessary. Ukraine belongs in democratic Europe, and our support is unequivocal.”
The Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, was the main guest speaker at the Session of the Nordic Council in Reykjavík in October 2024, and later today, 25 February 2025, the Ukrainian ambassador to Denmark will address the Nordic Council in Copenhagen.
