Are you entitled to public benefits if your spouse or partner dies?

You are not in the first instance entitled to public benefits if your spouse or partner dies. However, there are some exceptions:

  • If your spouse or partner was in receipt of a disability pension, the disability pension of the deceased person will be paid to you for a period of two months after the end of the month in which the death occurred.
  • If your spouse or partner was in receipt of a retirement pension, the retirement pension of the deceased person will be paid to you for a period of two months after the end of the month in which the death occurred.

Are you entitled to benefits if your parents or guardians die?

There is no entitlement to benefits if your parents or your guardian die.
