Parental allowance in Åland

Here you can read about parental allowance and maternity grant in Åland. Kela pays benefits to families with children living permanently in Finland and Åland and to those entitled to benefits on the basis of employment.

In Åland, the rules on parental allowance are largely the same as in Finland. Parental allowance is applied for from Kela, while maternity allowance, for example, is applied for from Kommunernas socialtjänst (KST).

Maternity grant

Expectant or new mothers living in Åland are entitled to maternity grant from Kommunernas socialtjänst (KST). You can get this grant if you have been pregnant for at least 154 days and have had a medical examination before your fifth month of pregnancy.

In Åland, the grant is a tax-free lump sum of EUR 224. You apply for maternity grant through KST's e-services and can choose between receiving the grant in cash or as a maternity box. Read more about maternity grant on KST’s website.
