Alongside the climate crisis is the biodiversity crisis. This day will focus mainly on land use, forestry and peatland conservation, and solutions to tackle climate change in agriculture and food sector.

10.15 - 11.45: Solutions to tackle Climate Change in Agriculture and Food Sector

This workshop presents the ongoing trends in agriculture and food sectors, after which a panel discussion will be held, in which future challenges, research needs, and solutions are discussed.

12.15 - 13.15: Livestock’s Role in Sustainable Food Systems and Society

Organizer: Helsinki Institute Of Sustainability Science (Helsus) / Others involved: Miriam Torres-Miralles and Rachel Mazac

An expert panel discussion will illuminate, expand, and add nuance to current (mis)understandings of the interconnected roles livestock play in food systems and as a part of making food systems more/less sustainable. 

14.45 - 15.15: Live from Glasgow - Climate change impacts on Saami reindeer herding pastures

Organizer: Saami Council/AMAP

This event will provide information on the NCM-funded project CITE--Climate Impacts on Terrestrial Environments, a pilot study to demonstrate co-production of a project plan between Saami reindeer herders and terrestrial/climate researchers to document climate-related changes on reindeer pasturelands in Fennoscandinan Sápmi.

Effective conservation, restoration and management of wetlands, including peatlands, holds enormous potential to contribute to climate adaptation and mitigation, and conservation of biodiversity. Here, policy makers and experts from Scotland and Arctic states will explore the challenges and opportunities that are emerging as we collectively seek to protect and restore these crucial ecosystems.
