Åland regional citizenship is a precondition for voting and standing for election to the Parliament of Åland, for owning and occupying land in Åland as well as the right to conduct business in Åland. Regional citizenship is not a barrier to moving to Åland, and if you move to Åland and do not have regional citizenship you can buy an apartment or build a home on zoned land with a land acquisition permit. Åland regional citizenship is a precondition for voting and standing for election to the Parliament of Åland, for owning and occupying land in Åland as well as the right to conduct business in Åland. Exceptions from the requirement of regional citizenship can be granted by the Government of Åland on application. Land acquisition permits in Åland

The Government of Åland can grant exceptions from the requirement of regional citizenship for owning real estate. You can apply for and get a special permit, a land acquisition permit, from the Government of Åland. The purpose of the rules on land acquisition is that land is primarily owned by persons who are resident in Åland. Conscription

If you have regional citizenship and moved to Åland before the age of 12, you are exempted from conscription.
