New ideas and co-operation
The call for proposals should kick start new projects, discussions, and ideas that can strengthen Nordic co-operation within the area of food. The steering committee is hoping to receive many applications.
“We’re looking for inspiration for joint Nordic projects in which children can explore, taste, and share their experiences based around food. It goes without saying that projects must additionally seek to promote the Nordic food and food culture brand outside of the region,” says Nina Sundqvist, administrative director of Norwegian organisation Matmerk and chair of the steering committee for New Nordic Food.

New Nordic Food places considerable emphasis on network-building, collaboration, and branding. In addition to mandatory application criteria that include a Nordic advantage, communication, and anchoring, priority is given to creativity and cross-sectoral co-operation. Nina Sundqvist continues:

The total budget for this call for proposals is DKK 1.2 million.
The Nordic Region at the forefront
The two focus areas - “Children, young people, and food” and “International branding” - relate directly to the New Nordic Food manifesto written in 2004. The manifesto, which sets out ten objectives and serves as a guide for innovation in Nordic cuisine, has helped to put the Nordic Region at the forefront of global cuisine, as well as to change eating habits in the Nordic Region.
The democratisation of good food is an important step in New Nordic Food and is embodied in current efforts.
This latest call for proposals is part of ongoing activities relating to New Nordic Food that since 2015 have prioritised projects relating to food in the public sector, the Nordic food award “Embla”, and food tourism.
“The Nordic Region is an international pioneer when it comes to sustainable food. People travel here from across the globe to experience the region’s culinary culture. The democratisation of good food is an important step within New Nordic Food and is embodied in current efforts,” stresses Mads Frederik Fischer-Møller, senior adviser at the Nordic Council of Ministers.
Applications must be received by 19 April.
