The Nordic Region faces multiple challenges. Geopolitical tensions close to our part of the world, the climate crisis, threats to biodiversity and the environment, the digital revolution, ageing populations and poor well-being among young people all call for close working relationships between our countries. Major social problems need to be addressed collectively, and the Nordic Council of Ministers has a big role to play in this work.

These are troubled times for the Nordic Region and the rest of the world. Climate change, war close to our part of the world and pressure on welfare systems and democratic values are just some of the challenges, and individual countries cannot address them alone. We need to work together and think holistically, and that is the starting point for the 14 new sectoral co-operation programmes that will guide the Nordic Council of Ministers’ inter-governmental work until 2030.

Clear priorities and targeted initiatives

“The programmes renew our focus on delivering on the governments’ objectives and achieving our vision. The clear priorities and targeted initiatives will help address the major social challenges that the Nordic Region faces,” says Karen Ellemann, Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers. Together, the programmes deliver on the three strategic priorities of Vision 2030: A green Nordic Region, a competitive Nordic Region and a socially sustainable Nordic Region.
