Nordiske ministre for helse- og sosialpolitikk samlet til møte i Helsingfors 27.april 2016
The Nordic health ministers agree on the need to step up work on public health and are issuing a declaration in the light of the proposals contained in the report “The Future Nordic Co-operation on Health”. The objective is equal health for all.

The Nordic Council of Ministers for Health and Social Affairs (MR-S) acknowledges the considerable health inequalities that exist in the Nordic Region – despite high global rankings – and that these inequalities need to be eradicated.

he ministers also want health and well-being to be considered from a gender-equality perspective.

The goal is to reduce health inequalities.

Information and development

The declaration calls for a new arena in which the Nordic countries can work together on public health and for the Nordic Centre for Welfare and Social Issues (NVC) to provide the secretariat for this work.

The ministers have also agreed to prioritise sharing information and experiences and joint development projects for cross-border preventative measures and health promoting activities. In particular, the work will prioritise addressing health inequalities, mental health and preventing the harmful use of alcohol, drugs and tobacco.

Report: The Future Nordic Co-operation on Health

The report “The Future Nordic Co-operation on Health” was commissioned by the Nordic Council of Ministers for Health and Social Affairs (MR-S) and written by former Swedish health minister Bo Könberg in 2014. It outlines proposals for working more closely together on initiatives to improve public health, initiatives that the ministers are now seeking to implement.
