On 15 October, a number of stakeholders in sustainability will gather in Stockholm at a Nordic conference on sustainable lifestyles organised by research institute Nordregio. The opening speaker will be Sweden’s Minister for Climate and the Environment, Romina Pourmokhtari.

The conference marks the conclusion of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Sustainable Living programme, which it is funding and is being co-ordinated by Nordregio.

The purpose of the programme is to promote sustainable lifestyle choices through a holistic approach, which is also reflected in the structure of the Sustainable Living Summit conference. A wide range of topics will be covered on the day of the conference, from youth issues and education to food systems, culture, and gender equality. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel will also be present.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore new research, panel discussions, practical workshops, and cultural segments – including a redesigned fashion show and a talk show with a stand-up comedian. The idea is for the conference to provide attendees with the tools and inspiration to promote sustainable choices at all decision-making levels.

Among the participants at the conference are politicians, decision-makers, businesses, consumers, academics, young people, and other stakeholders.

Part of the Nordic vision

The Sustainable Living programme and the conference are part of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ vision for the Nordic Region to become the most sustainable and integrated region in the world by 2030.

Sweden holds the presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers this year, and the vision serves as a guiding principle for the Swedish presidency. The Swedish presidency programme states that Sweden will continue efforts to ensure the Nordic Region is a leader in the green transition, globally competitive, and socially sustainable.

Although the conference is open to the public, registration is required for those wishing to attend in person at Kulturhuset in Stockholm. The number of places is limited.

The conference will also be streamed live. The event will be held in English.
