Nominees for the 2022 Nordic Council prizes

50 nominees from eight countries. Here are this year’s nominees for the Nordic Council prizes for the environment, music, film, literature, and children and young people’s literature. The winners will be announced on 1 November at an awards ceremony in Helsinki in conjunction with the Nordic Council Session 2022.

Nominees for the 2022 Nordic Council Children and Young People’s Literature Prize

Thirteen Nordic picture books, youth novels, and collections of poetry have been nominated for the 2022 Nordic Council Children and Young People’s Literature Prize. A playful joy of storytelling, distinctive humour, and melancholy shine through in the nominated works, whilst the many facets of the picture book genre are also widely represented.

Nominees for the 2022 Nordic Council Film Prize

Five Nordic feature films are nominated for the 2022 Nordic Council Film Prize. The prize is shared equally between the winning screenwriter, director and producer, which underlines that film as an art form is the result of close co-operation between these three main functions. 

Nominees for the 2022 Nordic Council Music Prize

Twelve works have been nominated for the 2022 Nordic Council Music Prize for their high artistic standard. These include albums with electronic music, folk and art music, as well as new concepts such as a flute nonett and a kinetic opera, which have all been produced by composers from the Nordic countries.

Nominees for the 2022 Nordic Council Environment Prize

The planting of kelp grass in Denmark, the re-establishment of drained wetlands in Iceland, Sweden’s oldest existing UNESCO biosphere reserve, and a voluntary association that restores rivers and streams in Finland. A total of six projects have been nominated for the 2022 Nordic Council Environment Prize, the focus of which this year is on nature-based solutions.

Nominees for the 2022 Nordic Council Literature Prize

Love, power, and exclusion are among the common themes of the fourteen Nordic novels and poetry collections that have been nominated for the 2022 Nordic Council Literature Prize. This year’s nominees span the entire Nordic Region with works from all countries and language areas.

The awards ceremony can be watched throughout the Nordic Region on 1 November

Everyone in the Nordic Region will be able to watch the live broadcast announcing the winners of the Nordic Council’s prizes for children and young people’s literature, film, literature, the environment, and music.

The broadcast from Helsinki’s Musikhuset will start at 20:00 (CET) and can be watched live on YLE Teema/YLE Fem throughout the Nordic Region. The awards ceremony will also be broadcast on other public service channels throughout the Nordic Region. Check your national television listings for details.
