Nordic governments ensure that children and young people remain high on Nordic agenda
Samarbejdsministrene på deres første møde i 2025.
The Ministers for Nordic Co-operation met in Copenhagen on 26 February. 'Children and young people' was a key topic of their meeting.
Vision 2030, and the Nordic Region more broadly, has a keen emphasis on ensuring the welfare and participation of children and young people. Within Nordic co-operation, efforts are pursued in every sector and institution of the Nordic Council of Ministers, which means that there is an extensive range of activities pertaining to children and young people. Health, education, gender equality, culture, language, and security, as well as research in these areas, are just some examples.
Discussions at the meeting in Copenhagen explored current topics relevant to children and young people in the Nordic countries. The Ministers for Nordic Co-operation heard views from Finland's children's ombudsman Elina Pekkarinen.
Children and young people are a priority in the Finnish and Ålandic co-presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers in 2025. Activities in Nordic co-operation in 2025 will include digital skills and media literacy, learning from the pandemic, the Nordic-Baltic Youth Summit, and the continuation of projects such as “Barnens 1000 första dagar” (A child's first 1,000 days). At their meeting, the Ministers for Nordic Co-operation agreed that children and young people must remain high on the Nordic agenda as a means to safeguard the future of Nordic society.
The ministers also agreed on the Nordic Council of Ministers' budgetary framework for 2026 and discussed the Nordic programme for freedom of movement to eradicate obstacles to freedom of movement between the Nordic countries.
