Crown Prince Haakon of Norway and Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden will attend the Nordic Council of Ministers' event on regional co-operation for comprehensive sustainable ocean management at the UN Ocean Conference in Nice on 9 June. The event is being organised together with MARHAB – The Marine Habitats Project, which is an EU-funded project. The Nordic Council of Ministers is participating in the conference for the first time.

Crown Prince Haakon is heavily engaged in issues of dignity and tolerance, sustainable development, and entrepreneurship. He is also a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Crown Princess Victoria's involvement in environmental and climate issues led to her serving as one of 17 ambassadors in respect of efforts to deliver on the global sustainable development goals between 2016 and 2019. She is now ambassador emerita for the SDGs and, in this role, will continue to focus on sustainability, oceans, and fisheries issues. The Crown Princess has also served as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) since 2023.

The Nordic Council of Ministers is taking an active approach to marine issues in both the fisheries and environmental sectors. At the event, it will highlight a project in Skagerak – SAMSKAG – as an example of how to co-operate broadly and cross-sectorally on marine issues both in the Nordic Region and beyond. Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers Karen Ellemann will also attend the event.
