Rationale

SIGU is a new exciting sound in the Nordic Region. In the group SIGU, we find a new style of music in Greenland, where genres such as rock, pop, jazz-funk and a little bit of trance have become an exciting mix, where the stories about the harsh realities of day-to-day life are told with brutal honesty. But all the beautiful things in life are also told in a way that makes us feel that there’s light at the end of the tunnel. These are much-needed tones, both in Greenland, but also in the wider world.

SIGU brings craftsmanship that can best be described as a work of art. It’s like a painting, where great feelings and experiences are rendered in colour. And it’s told in such a liberating way that makes us feel we’re alive.

It’s especially picked for the listener thanks to its relaxed singing voice that speaks directly to the heart, and a group that consists of professional musicians who leave nothing to chance.

The musical style allows the listener to see and feel the instruments, while the instrumental sequences leave everything to one’s imagination, and the international sounds such as piano and wind instruments are in perfect harmony with the traditional Greenlandic drum, which describes a series of sessions and sequences of life. The lyrics cover a broad spectrum of topics and deal with the cycle of life, ancestors, joy, sorrow, summer and love.
