The Nordic Council

The Nordic Council is the official body for inter-parliamentary co-operation. It consists of 87 MPs elected by the eight Nordic parliaments. Established in 1952, the Nordic Council promotes closer co-operation by proposing initiatives that improve everyday life for the people of the region, help the region play a bigger role in the world, and address challenges faced by all of the Nordic countries.
Session of the Nordic Council 2026
Finland took over the Presidency of the Nordic Council on 1 January 2026. The programme for the Presidency is a joint one written by the Finnish and Åland delegations to the Nordic Council. Ville Väyrynen is serving as the President and Kim Berg as the Vice-president for the year.
The members of the Nordic Council
The Nordic Council has 87 elected members. The ongoing political work of the Nordic Council is done by committees and party groups. The Council has a Secretariat in Copenhagen and national secretariats in the Nordic parliaments.
