The Nordic Council The Nordic Council is the official body for Nordic inter-parliamentary co-operation. Formed in 1952, it has 87 elected members from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, the Faroe Islands, Greenland and Åland. Nordic Council members The Nordic Council has 87 elected members. The ongoing political work of the Nordic Council is done by committees and party groups. The Council has a Secretariat in Copenhagen and national secretariats in the Nordic parliaments. The programme for the 2024 Icelandic Presidency Presidency Peace and security in the Arctic is the main theme of Iceland’s programme for the 2024 Presidency of the Nordic Council. It also focuses on the environment and equality. Sessions and prizes Sessions of the Nordic Council The plenary assembly is the Nordic Council's supreme body. The Ordinary Session is held every year in week 44 in the country currently holding the presidency of the Nordic Council. The Theme Session is held in the spring. The sessions are unique forums in which MPs discuss Nordic issues with the prime ministers and other national ministers. Nordic Council prizes The Nordic Council awards five annual prizes: the Literature Prize, the Children and Young People’s Literature Prize, the Music Prize, the Film Prize, and the Environment Prize. The DKK 300,000 prizes and statuettes are awarded to the winners during the annual Session.
