Dear President, dear colleagues from the Nordic Council, on behalf of the Baltic Assembly, I thank you for the invitation to participate in the 74th plenary session. Some of you we met just last week, during our session in Riga, and I thank you for your contributions there. Now it’s my honour to convey the messages of the Baltic Assembly.

Our two organizations have been close partners for more than 30 years. This challenging time, after the Russian Federation’s brutal and unjustified invasion of Ukraine, has brought us even closer together. Allow me once again to express our gratitude to Finland and Sweden for their decision to join NATO. This strong and necessary step will contribute greatly to the security and stability of the Baltic-Nordic region.

The war in Ukraine is becoming crueler and more dangerous every day. We need to put a stop to the Russian Federation’s actions, which are a threat not only to Ukraine, its neighbouring countries, and the Baltic states, but to the whole of Europe and the world. Here our mutual understanding and readiness to act are extremely important.

The Nordic countries have been close allies, and your support of Ukraine and the Baltic States during these unimaginable difficult times is of the essence. We thank you for the support and assistance so far, but also urge you to continue, and not let the Russian Federation wear us down. We have to remain alarmed, awake, and united.

Dear colleagues, the international community has made mistakes, and sometimes it’s hard to admit that. However, now Europe is on the right track, and we have to continue in this way. We have to be united, firm, and supportive in all matters that are related to protecting our common values. It’s good to know that you carry on the good work. Thank you.

Skandinavisk oversettelse

Tack.
