The Nordic Council of Ministers’ TemaNord series of publications has been adapted to suit the needs of people with visual impairments and/or reading difficulties. “It is important that Nordic co-operation is accessible to all, so I am pleased to announce a new step along that path by making our publications accessible to people with visual impairments and/or reading difficulties,” says the Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers, Dagfinn Høybråten.

Nordic co-operation generates a large amount of knowledge and information, with the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Publications Department producing 150– 200 publications every year. About half of them are in the TemaNord series, which from this week onward will be published in the PDF/UA format that is designed for people with visual impairments and/or reading difficulties.

Access for all

The Publications Department entered into a dialogue with a range of appropriate organisations and has drawn up a new Open Access policy:
”It is highly recommended that publications fulfil accessibility criteria for people with visual impairment or reading disabilities”.
The Council of Ministers has also been engaged in a dialogue with the World Health Organization (WHO), which has made accessibility a top priority.

“We will continue to do everything we can to make our work accessible to all. The aim is to make as many of our publications as possible accessible to all,” says the head of the Publications Department, Niels Stern.
