The Nordic Council’s elected members can form party groups. A party group must consist of at least four members and have representatives from at least two countries.

The Nordic Council’s governing body, the Presidium, sets the rules for the registration of party groups.

The party groups in the Nordic Council get party support for their activities. Unaffiliated members, or members who have previously been registered to a party group, may receive some support.

Currently there are five political party groups in the Nordic Council; the Nordic Green Left, the Social Democrat Group, the Centre Group, the Conservative Group, and Nordic Freedom.

These party groups have their own party group secretariat and secretary.
