Bank accounts in the Faroe Islands

A Faroese bank account is required for you to be paid a salary.

As an employee in the Faroe Islands, you must have a bank account in one of the Faroese banks in order for your employer to be able to pay your salary. In order to open a Faroese bank account, it is necessary that you have a Faroese P-number.

The four Faroese banks
There are four banks in the Faroe Islands:
Faroese P-number
In order to be paid a salary you must have a bank account, and before you can open a bank account you must have a P-number.
If you will be working in the Faroe Islands for more than 180 days, you must have a P-number. If you will be in the Faroe Islands to work for a period of no more than 180 days, you must have a so-called pseudo-number, i.e. a provisional P-number. You must ask your employer for this pseudo-number, who will then provide it through the tax authorities.
