Alongside the climate crisis is the biodiversity crisis. This day will focus mainly and land use, forestry and peatland conservation, with a few reindeer thrown in for good measure.

8.30 AM - 10.00 AM: The unsung hero on the path to decarbonization

Organizer: CleanTech, Alfa Laval & Bussiness Sweden 

To speed up the transition towards a decarbonized future we need to have multiple solutions along the road. One of them is energy efficiency where there is a huge untapped potential to reduce carbon dioxide emission already today. 

10.00 AM - 11.00 AM: LEAF: A Coalition of Leaders for Forest Protection

Organizer: LEAF Coalition / Co-organizer: Emergent and Norway’s International Climate and Forest Initiative (NICFI)

The LEAF Coalition is a public-private initiative which aims to mobilize $1 billion in finance for tropical forest protection. Join us during COP to hear from corporate, forest country, and Nordic leaders about how together they can support an end to tropical deforestation.

11.30 AM - 12.30 PM: Data for forest and farming – building from below

Organizer: Food and Forest Development Finland

Data is needed for result-oriented climate action. We present cases on North-South collaboration using data to engage smallholders.

12.40 PM - 1.10 PM: Climate change impacts on Saami reindeer herding pastures

Organizer: Saami Council/AMAP

This event will provide information on the NCM-funded project CITE - Climate Impacts on Terrestrial Environments - a pilot study to demonstrate co-production of a project plan between Saami reindeer herders and terrestrial/climate researchers.

In a joint event with the Nordic COP26 Hub in Helsinki we give you a unique opportunity to ask your questions straight to the people in charge.

2.00 PM - 2.50 PM: Wetland/Peatland conservation, restoration, and management - from Scotland to the Arctic

JOINT EVENT (GLASGOW/HELSINKI)

Organizer: Scottish Government

Policy makers and experts from Scotland and Arctic states will explore the challenges and opportunities that are emerging as we collectively seek to protect and restore these crucial ecosystems.

3.00 PM - 5.00 PM: Two Global Crises Interlinked

Organizer: Nordic Working Group on Biodiversity, NBM, under the Nordic Council of Ministers / Nature Based Solution Vision 2030 Project under the Nordic Council of Ministers

An interactive panel debate considering examples that require the balancing of needs as well as win-win action for both climate and nature with the participation of decision makers, policy makers and experts.
