Thank you very much. Dear chairwoman, dear Madame President, dear colleagues, dear guests from parliamentary organisations.
I would like to kindly thank you for inviting the Baltic Assembly to participate in your session and for a strong and active cooperation throughout this year. It is truly encouraging to see that despite the many challenges we face today, our cooperation continues and has become stronger and stronger.
Just two weeks ago, members of the Nordic Council visited our Baltic Assembly session in Vilnius where we focused on strengthening Baltic cooperation across different sectors as well as for instance collaboration among like-minded nations. The most highlighted topic through this year's session in the Baltic Assembly was the same: our unwavering strong support to Ukraine. This made me think that we sometimes forget to properly thank our Ukrainian friends for standing on the frontline against the threat to our cooperation and a free Europe. This war is not just about Ukraine; it is a fight for our future in Europe and the shared values that unite us all in this room and all around Europe.
Dear friends, supporting Ukraine is more than just solidarity. The Ukranian people are making incredible sacrifices to defend their homes and facilities against Russian aggression. By giving military, humanitarian and financial aid, we are standing up for justice and for the right of nations to decide their own future. Their bravery and resilience deserves our full support. But let us be clear: Our support for Ukraine is not just about humanitarian aid or military assistance; it is about sending the clear message to all the world that aggression and tyranny will not be tolerated at all. By continuing our support to Ukraine, we are defending the core principles of democracy, human rights and peace.
The Baltic states saw this fight early on. This year we marked, as I said, the 35-year anniversary of our Baltic way. In this occasion two million people from free nations - Latvians, Estonians and Lithuanians - stood in a 650 km in one united chain. We know what Soviet occupation is, and we have lived with it for 50 years. Now we are celebrating 35 years of independence: three independent nations. But independence should also be celebrated by Ukrainians, Belarusians and other ex-Soviet nations. We should fight for this.
In conclusion, I want to thank you for your support of Ukraine - and the countries as well. It is more important now than ever that we stand together. Our unity sends the powerful message to all the world that we will not back down in the face of aggression. By working together we can ensure a safer and more stable future for our nations. Let us continue to support each other to remain steadfast in our commitment to peace and democracy.
And in the end, I finish my presidency for the Baltic Assembly. Next year the presidency is going to our neighbours in Latvia. Let me thank all of you for the cooperation, but not cooperation only for this year, nor only for decades, but for a hundred years. If I could recommend a book, a popular book in Lithuania, it is a book about our one hundred years of cooperation. It is about the fellowship of our nations around the Baltic Sea. This popular book is about our duchess, also the Finnish duchess and the queen of Sweden: Kotryna Jogailaitė. I recommend you to translate it into the Nordic languages, because next year in the Lithuanian Parliament we named the Kotryna Jogailaitė year, because 500 years ago the Lithuanian Grand Duchess was born in Lithuania. She was our duchess and she was also the queen of Sweden. So let us in the Baltic, North and Arctic Sea unite us for victories for more than 500 years in future. Thank you very much.

Genom militärt, humanitärt och ekonomiskt bistånd försvarar vi rättvisan och nationernas rätt att bestämma om sin egen framtid. Deras mod och kristålighet förtjänar vårt fulla stöd. Men låt oss vara tydliga: Vårt stöd till Ukraina handlar inte bara om humanitärt eller militärt bistånd; det handlar om att sända ett tydligt budskap till hela världen om att vi inte tolererar aggression och tyranni i någon form. Genom att fortsätta stödja Ukraina försvarar vi de grundläggande principerna om demokrati, mänskliga rättigheter och fred.
De baltiska staterna bevittnade denna strid i ett tidigt skede. I år firade vi, som jag sade, 35-årsdagen av den Baltiska kedjan. Två miljoner människor från tre nationer - letter, ester och litauer - bildade då en kedja på 650 kilometer. Vi vet vad den sovjetiska ockupationen innebar och vi levde med den i 50 års tid.
