Glasgow 08.11.2021: Energy Day
Events
All times are GMT.
JOINT EVENT (Glasgow / Helsinki)
Organizers: Nordic Energy Research and Nordic Innovation
Can the Nordic region influence the global aviation industry? The Nordic countries have ambitious plans to reduce the carbon footprint of flying. All Nordic countries about to get blend-in requirements for sustainable aviation fuels.
JOINT EVENT (Glasgow / Helsinki)
Organizers: Nordic Energy Research (NER) and Nordic Innovation
The maritime industry represents 3 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions. Ships last for 20-30 years. Unless shipowners act now their global share will rise. The Nordic region is upping the game.
Organizer: Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping / University of St. Andrews / Global Maritime Forum
To decarbonize by 2050, the maritime sector must be well underway by 2030, with a share of 5% sustainable fuels and 200 deep sea vessels running on sustainable fuels. This event will discuss the main challenges incl. supply of green fuels at scale and enabling policy- and regulatory measures.
Organizer: Danish Ministry of Environment
The panel will raise awareness among participants at COP26 on shorepower for cruise ships as a solution in the transportation sector that can reduce air pollution in ports. One cruise ship in a port for an hour pollutes comparable to 3,500 diesel cars per hour.
Organizer: UNEP DTU Partnership
What is the impact of the new climate pledges for 2030 on global emissions? Are G20 members on a clear path towards their net-zero targets? What are the global warming implications? Join us for a presentation and discussion of the key findings of the new UNEP Emissions Gap Report 2021.
Organizer: Nordic Development Fund
In this participatory event we get down to the roots of climate change adaptation. Which solutions would work best in the developing countries? What are the main obstacles? How can we find the way around them?
Organizer: UNEP DTU Partnership (UDP) / Co-organizers: Danish Energy Agency (DEA), Deutsche Energie-Agentur GmbH (dena)
The side event will focus on what roles of cities can play in connecting technologies of district heating and cooling, and building energy efficiency for their carbon neutrality targets.
Organiser: Nordic Energy Research / Partners: International Energy Agency, Bloomberg/ Bloomberg New Energy Finance Organizer: Climate Change Leadership at Uppsala University
The Nordic countries have long been climate policy pioneers. But what are the associated drivers, barriers and results, and how can the remaining gaps within targets be bridged? This workshop explores how lessons learned can be of value outside the Nordic Countries, and what can be learnt from efforts elsewhere.

Organizer: Equinor, ,SSE, Nordic Energy Research / Co-organizer: Energinet.dk
The event will showcase the opportunities that exist for knowledge sharing and collaboration between countries, drawing upon decades of r experience to accelerate the transition to net-zero. It will highlight the shared Scottish and Nordic opportunities.
Organizer: Nordic Energy Research / Co-organizer: SSE, DNV
Can wind energy be part of an ecologically and socially sustainable development? In a green and just transition, all relevant stakeholders must be involved – local communities as well as nature. Examples from the Nordics and neighbours could show how offshore wind projects may support biodiversity and be supported by society.
Organizer: Climate Strategies
Technologies to capture carbon for storage (or use) and Negative Emissions Technologies (NETs) are critical to reach 1.5°C pathways. Join us for an evening reception and dialogue on possible enabling frameworks for scaling NETs and CCS or CCU, and their role in broader mitigation strategies.
Streaming
All events will be streamed by We Don’t Have Time and some events will be shown in the NCM channels on YouTube and Facebook.
