Glasgow 09.11.2021: Green Transition

Article 6 of the Paris Agreement covers a crucial topic when it comes to green transition: how to organize carbon markets and support systems. We will dedicate the whole morning to this, while the rest of the day includes a focus on gender and development issues.

The Reykjavík Green Deal is a short term and long term plan which touches upon every aspect of city life. In this short lecture, the Mayor of Reykjavík will talk about innovations like Carbfix, sustainability in a healthy city and the race to zero.

2.00 PM - 3.00 PM: Towards a climate resilient Africa through Green and Blue Economies

Organizers: Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), UNEP – DTU Partnership (UDP) / Co-organizers: African Union Commission (AUC)

The workshop will present findings from the Technology Needs Assessment in the energy sectors for Africa, conducted under the UNFCCC process, and showcase the continental initiatives for climate change and blue and green economy, the opportunities in Africa, and explore partnerships with Nordic countries, private sector and organisations.

3.05 PM - 3.25 PM: Launch of Project on Action to Avert and Address Displacement Related to the Effects of Climate Change

Organizer: Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation

The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation and the Platform on Disaster Displacement will initiate an innovative and forward-looking, multi-year project to enhance the understanding of displacement as an issue of loss and damage, and strengthen action and support to avert, minimize and address displacement related to the adverse effects of climate change.

3.30 PM - 4.30 PM: The Nordics as pioneers in developing jobs and skills in Africa

The Beyond the Grid Fund for Africa contributing to employment within the off-grid sector - Off-grid energy is still a largely untapped opportunity for creating jobs for youth. The sector is emerging as a significant employer in emerging economies that suffer from high rates of joblessness. 

4.45 PM - 5.30 PM: Towards and beyond carbon neutrality – What role for voluntary carbon markets?

The event explores key terms and concepts relating to carbon neutrality and net zero, focusing on the role of non-state actors and use of voluntary carbon markets. The event is organised as part of the Nordic Dialogue on Voluntary Compensation.

6.00 PM - 7.00 PM: No climate policy is gender neutral. Here is why.

Organizer: The sustainable consultancy PlanMiljø

This COP26-event will shed light on how climate policies impact gender in a Nordic context. We raise the critical question of who enjoys the benefits of the transition to a carbon neutral Nordic region?
