The war in Ukraine is tragic and has an enormous impact on people. It is putting democratic dialogue, freedom of expression, and social and cultural co-operation under huge pressure, especially in the countries around the Baltic Sea, including the Nordic and Baltic countries.

Type
Debate meeting

For this debate, we've invited four people from various organisations whose work is affected by the situation in Ukraine.

Together, they will try to answer the questions: How does not having co-operation, sharing information, and having open dialogue affect individuals, society in general, and therefore democracy? Where is this leading us? What does the future hold for listening to and talking with the societies on the other side?

Our questions to them are: How can culture serve as a medium for understanding in a way that journalism cannot? How can connections at the individual and person-to-person levels help?

Panel:

  • Henriette Borg Reinhold, Former director, Danish Cultural Institute, St. Petersburg, Russia
  • Stefan Eriksson, Former Swedish ambassador to Belarus. Now director of Nordic Council of Ministers, Latvia office,
  • John Frølich, Head of Nordic Journalist Centre
  • Vibe Klarup, General Secretary, Amnesty International, Danish section
