A total of 13 projects will be funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers within the framework of the new co-operation programme between the Nordic Region and Northwest Russia. There were over 70 applications to the open call programme, which was launched in the autumn of 2016.

The chosen projects involve co-operation within a variety of areas including the environment, media, good governance, human rights, social issues, the supporting of NGOs, and co-operation between indigenous peoples.

“I’m very pleased with the number of fantastic applications for this new programme. The wide variety of applications demonstrates the broad interest in co-operation between the Nordic Region and Northwest Russia”, says the Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers Dagfinn Høybråten.

Considerable interest in the programme

The open call programme was launched in September 2016 and the first application round took place the following month. The Nordic Council of Ministers received a total of 73 applications from various partnership projects in the Nordic countries and Northwest Russia.

The new programme builds on the council of ministers’ efforts to develop networks and exchange experiences between the two regions.

The chosen projects will share funding of DKK 6 million, with each project awarded between DKK 300,000 and DKK 500,000.

The Nordic Council of Ministers developed new forms of co-operation between the Nordic Region and Northwest Russia in 2015 and 2016. In addition to the open call programme, new partnerships in the areas of the environment, climate, and health will be launched in early 2017.
