Conversation Festival LAMPA was born eight years ago and has already become an annual, indispensable feature of the Latvian social life. It takes place in the picturesque town of Cēsis, located just an hour’s drive from the Latvian capital.
The festival regularly features more than 200 events – discussions, workshops, various other activities – on a variety of topics: practical, philosophical, global and Latvia-specific. The discussions can also be followed online at the festival website:
The Nordic countries have been an avid supporter of the festival from its outset, and this year have joined forces for a Nordic program “Nordic Island”, organised by the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia in cooperation with the Nordic embassies and Latvian partners.
During the two days of the festivals, the Nordic program will present ten events, covering a number of diverse topics that are of common interest for the Nordic and Baltic countries: Nordic-Baltic cooperation perspectives after 2022, resilient society, zero waste, digital inclusion, wind energy, and urban agriculture.
All conversations will be conducted in English, and some of the discussions will be livestreamed.

What do cities and agriculture have in common? Urban farming has become increasingly popular in recent years, offering not only fresh food but also other benefits - such as noise-dampening green roofs or vertical gardens - which can outweigh the unpleasant aspects of city life.
Raising awareness about food waste has been on the agenda for some time. This time, we will look for answers and solutions together with HoReCa representatives and sustainability experts.
The aim of the strategy board game " YES to Democracy " is to create a democratic country. During the game, the players are made to understand the importance of the basic elements of democracy, the opportunities and the risks of a democratic state.
The panel discussion about the role of media and culture in strengthening democratic societies is part of the Nordic Council of Ministers' Women at War project, which provides a platform for women's personal stories about the impact of war and how it has affected Nordic and Baltic societies.
We will discuss how to create and provide a "village" or support system for each newborn and its family, what are the existing and missing support solutions, what is the Nordic experience in the field of family support, and what would be the best family support model for Latvia?
Government officials, researchers and representatives of the wind energy industry will discuss how to inject "fresh air" into Latvia's path towards energy independence and a stable energy supply.
The events of 2022 have in many ways changed the context of regional cooperation, forcing us to confront realities that would have been unthinkable in the past. So what is the long-term future of Nordic-Baltic regional cooperation?
The panel will discuss how we can promote democratic engagement and participation, especially among youth and other groups that do not always view democracy as a given.

Dialogues in Democracy is a chance for everyone to learn and practise dialogue skills and become a better interlocutor. Everyone is welcome - introverts, extroverts, young people, seniors, those who love to talk and those who know how to listen.
