Nordic Talks is a series of live talks and podcast episodes addressing the biggest global challenges. Through conversations with some of the brightest minds in the Nordics and their counterparts from around the world, we want to inspire each other to act – for a better, more sustainable future.

1/11 at 9.00 - 10.00: Nordic Climate Leadership

Organizer: Climate Change Leadership at Uppsala University

 

Drivers, barriers and opportunities on the road to and from Glasgow. This workshop explores how lessons learned can be of value outside the Nordic Countries, and what can be learnt from efforts elsewhere.

3/11 at 17.00 - 17.45: Leading the future. From COP26 to UIA23

Organizer: UIA23

In 2023 the Nordic countries host the UIA World congress in Copenhagen with a focus on the UN SDG’s and how to achieve the goals. The transition need a collaboration and a leadership not seen before and the UIA bring the necessary part together to find the needed solutions.

4/11 at 11.00 - 12.00: Ocean Acidification in the NE Atlantic, Arctic and Baltic waters

Organizer: Plymouth Marine Laboratory

High-level speakers and science experts will look to raise ambition for emissions reduction towards achieving the Paris Agreement, followed by a Q&A with the audience.

4/11 at 16.00 - 17.00: Ocean connections from the Arctic across the globe

Organizer: Scottish Government

This workshop will explore the importance of the ocean in the global and north west European climate, the need to ensure we are measuring the strength of ocean currents and the ocean’s properties, and how this information can be incorporated into climate models, climate services and decision-making at national and international levels.

6/11 at 13.15 - 14.00: Live from Helsinki - Culture: a game changer in the green transition

8/11 10.00 - 11.30: Decarbonizing in line with the Paris Agreement: what will it take?

Organizer: Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping

To decarbonize by 2050, the maritime sector must be well underway by 2030, with a share of 5%  sustainable fuels and 200 deep sea vessels running on sustainable fuels. This event will discuss the main challenges incl. supply of green fuels at scale and enabling policy- and regulatory measures.

8/11 at 14.15 - 15.00: Carbon neutrality in cities through sustainable energy transitions

Organizer: UNEP DTU Partnership (UDP) / Co-organizers: Danish Energy Agency (DEA), Deutsche Energie-Agentur GmbH (dena)

The event will focus on what roles of cities can play in connecting technologies of district heating and cooling, and building energy efficiency for their carbon neutrality targets.

11/11 at 18.00 - 19.00: Green and Liveable Cities in Africa

Organizer: Nordic Development Fund

Urbanisation is a big challenge in Africa, but a people-centred and climate-proof approach can turn this to an opportunity. Experiences from Nordic cities and businesses show that such a model can bring economic growth, jobs for youth, services and liveable neighbourhoods.
