The Global Financial Crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Russian invasion of Ukraine have had vastly negative effects on economies and increased the risk of political instability in all corners of the world. One consequence has been a renewed interest in the efficiency of conventional macroeconomic policies, fiscal multipliers and automatic stabilisers in particular.

Given the major global shocks alluded to above, are automatic stabilisers still quietly doing their job in the Nordics? Are there signs of changes to the size and potential time and state dependence of fiscal multipliers and automatic stabilisers? With the focus of many policymakers on security questions is there a sound political-economic environment for pursuing fiscal policy?

Find the answers to these questions and hear a debate about whether we can rely on fiscal stabilisers in the future during this launch event of the 2024 Nordic Economic Policy Review.
